Kizell Pond designated a Provincially Significant Wetland

In Septebmer 2011, Kizell Pond was designated as a PSW by the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources. In recent conversations with the area Counsellor, Marianne Wilkinson we have been informed that the City of Ottawa council will be moving to recognized the PSW designation of Kizell Pond in the city’s Official Plan  “in the near future”. The exact timing of the Council votes is still unclear but we are pressuring that the City act to recognize the Kizell Pond’s new status as soon as possible. If you have not already signed the on-line petition please visit www.bit.ly/kizell  to register your support.

This new designation for Kizell Pond is very important because the pond can now no longer be considered in KNL’s storm water management plans when considering ways and means for disposing of storm water from streets servicing the thousands of homes planned for Phases 7-9 of their controversial housing development.
