Protect the South March Highlands and the Carp Ridge from any further infrastructure and housing development protecting it for current and future generations to enjoy.
To do this we will undertake the actions outlined below to re-orient the relationship between the natural and human world in this area to one founded on respect for the natural world.
Some of our planned actions:
Continued advocacy and outreach/education work
Raise funds to purchase lands in the South March Highlands and Carp Ridge
Work with local area universities and colleges and other academic and research institutions to manage the Highlands as a world-class research and scientific centre
Working with partners we plan to:
- undertake the marketing and packaging the South March Highlands as an eco-tourism destination.
- creating a full menu of environmentally themed Ontario curriculum-based learning opportunities and lesson plans for all subjects from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12, including field trips and guided tours. This action includes working with universities and colleges to provide hands-on learning experiences.
- working with the City of Ottawa and the new Kanata North Recreation Centre (which will be adjacent to the South March Highlands) to develop recreational, social and educational opportunities using the forest
